RoboCop the movie

RoboCop (1987), violent, profane, schlocky and action-packed film. Within 20 minutes, our protagonist, portrayed by Peter Weller, is introduced and slain, horrifically blasted apart by a criminal gang. Near the conclusion of the film, one guy is wounded by toxic waste and murdered when a vehicle strikes him and he explodes. This isn't gratuitous violence, it's part of the story and message. RoboCop plays in a future Detroit that has seen Robocop crime rise and police are unable or unwilling to restore order. A multinational company partners with law enforcement and capitalizes on the crisis to make and market new military hardware, including combat robots to replace beat cops. The corporation will clean up the streets, make a profit, and pave the way for the development of a new, luxury district in the city.
